Duties & Responsibilities
The Commissioner of Elections is responsible for all federal, state, and county elections including city, school, and special elections.

The Auditor's Office receives nomination papers and public measures to be placed on ballots. 

The Commissioner prepares and monitors the processing of all the absentee ballots in order to aid voters who are unable to be at the polls on election day.

As custodian of the election, the commissioner certifies the results of the state or local entity involved and issues certificate of election to the proper person.

Special City of Riverside Election - December 11, 2018

Nomination papers are now available at the Washington County Auditor's Office for City of Riverside residents who are interested in running for a vacant council position on the Riverside City Council. The vacancy, filled by appointment by the City Council, has been called for special election which will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. The Nomination Petition filing period has started and the deadline is November 16, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. The Petition should have at least 10 signatures from Riverside residents who are eligible electors and should be filed with the Riverside City Clerk. It must be accompanied by a notarized Affidavit of Candidacy. To view the official news release please click on the link.
