The Washington County Engineers Office announced today that dust control application will be postponed until June 1st due to weather-related delays in preparing the roadway. As that date approaches the road conditions will be re-evaluated.
The unusual winter weather coupled with a long, wet spring has severely damaged the gravel roads in Southeastern Iowa. Washington County road crews along with contracted rock haulers continue to work on the most troublesome roads in the county. Much of this work has been delayed because of the weekly rains Washington County has received. “We've spoken to our preapproved dust control vendors and the consensus has been that delaying application to the roads is the best solution,” said David Patterson, County Engineer. “It would be highly inefficient to allow dust control to be sprayed on roads that still need rock or blading.”
Individuals who have purchased dust control will still get two applications on their road. The second application of dust control will be applied as scheduled in August. Go to the Washington County Engineers website at www.washingtonroads.org for road condition and dust control updates.
