Liquor License:


If you own a business in an unincorporated area of Washington County and wish to sell or serve an alcoholic beverage you must have a liquor license.  For further information please visit Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.

Tobacco Permit:


If you own a business in an unincorporated area of Washington County and wish to sell tobacco products you must have a tobacco permit.  For further information please visit Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division/Tobacco.

Fireworks:


Under the new Iowa law a permit is no longer needed to shoot off consumer grade fireworks. For all commercial grade firework displays you must obtain a permit through the Auditor's Office.

Under the new law there are restrictions on dates and times when fireworks can be displayed. Anything outside of these date spans or time frames you are considered to be committing a simple misdemeanor which is punishable by law.
  
  • A person shall not use or explode consumer fireworks on days other than June 1 - July 8 and December 10 - January 3 of each year, all dates inclusive.
  • A person shall not use or explode consumer fireworks at times other than between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. on July 4 and the Saturdays and Sundays immediately preceding and following July 4.
  • Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. on December 31 and 12:30 a.m. on January 1.
  • Between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. on the Saturdays and Sundays immediately preceding and following December 31.
